Obituary of Marjorie Virginia Herlihy
Marjorie Virginia Herlihy, died on October 22, 2022 at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY just 8 days short of her 103rd birthday.
Marjorie was born in Mount Kisco, NY, October 30, 1919 to Vera (Smith) and Spencer Roberts. She attended St Francis Elementary School and St Marys High School in Katonah, NY.
She was raised in Mt. Kisco and after her marriage to Henry Prokopp on March 10, 1939 they raised their family and made their life together in the village they loved.
For many years Marjorie worked for the Readers Digest in Chappaqua, NY. After that she spent several years with the Hartford Insurance Company in Mt. Kisco.
Marjorie truly enjoyed music and dancing, she loved animals, reading and baseball especially the Yankees. She continued to have an active interest in Mt. Kisco and the Independent Fire Company where Henry worked his way up to Chief.
She deeply loved her family and friends and especially children. Her kindness and compassion, intelligence, knowledge and experience and clear mind had many people coming to her with questions on her family history, events and places. As she genuinely cared about all, they returned that love and appreciation of Marjorie.
She and Henry raised two children;Mary Kathleen and Rosalie Virginia. Henry pre deceased her in 1967.
On May 27, 1977 Marjorie married Jerry Herlihy and a happy new phase of her life began. They enjoyed travelling to visit family members, family occasions and time spent with dear friends. Jerry predeceased her on December 30, 1999.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters; Mary Kathleen Morgan (Robert) and Rosalie Virginia Rockwell (Lee). Grandchildren: Audra Rockwell Petrone (Mike), Pete Rockwell (Tracy), Rob Morgan (Sharon), Great Grandchildren; Ashton Petrone Poley, Jennifer Petrone, Trevor Petrone and Jayde Morgan. Great Great Grandchildern: Avery Poley, Colton Poley, Raelyn Poley. Stepchildren: Margee Farano (Tony) and Patricia Pitrulli (Frank) and the late Dolores Chiacchia and Timothy Herlihy. She was also predeceased by her sister Dorothy and her brother Donald.
She kept a special bond with her grandchildren even down through great great grandchildren. She especially enjoyed remarking that Raelyn was her namesake as she was born in 2019 – her 100th year and has the middle name of Eleanor which is her confirmation middle name.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 26th at 11:00 am at St.Mary Of The Assumption Church,55 Valley Road, Katonah, NY 10536
Interment will follow at St.Francis Cemetery, Lexington Avenue, Mount Kisco, NY 10549.
