Mr Troy was my principal at Briarcliff Middle School and Briarcliff High School - I also completed my student teaching (and substituting) while he was still principal at the high school. He was a wonderful man - caring, kind and understanding. Condolences to your family - know that Joe Troy was well-loved for all he did for the students under his supervision.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family & friends of Joseph Troy. I was fortunate to have been a student at Briarcliff Middle & High Schools while he was principal. I had a troubled home life & Mr. Troy did all he could to insure that I was safe & sound. He was a kind, caring & compassionate man who served as one of God’s Angels in my young life. May his soul Rest In Peace. ~Laura (Figart) Shickel

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Troy's passing. As a student at Briarcliff High School, I always noticed how Mr. Troy talked to us like he would talk to anyone else he respected. We were people before kids. I remember when he went on our class trip to Washington DC and was telling us about why he had cut down on his drinking. He was candid in a way that few adults were with us about a really complicated topic, and the conversation stuck with me. Several years after I graduated, I was on a business trip when I heard someone calling my name. It was Mr. Troy and his wife heading on a trip to Hawaii. He was so tickled to see me as an adult on a business trip. I felt the glow from his pride the rest of that day.
I am just one person who felt the impact of Mr. Troy's kindness. Imagine how many other lives he has touched.

Ah Joseph...and your family... There are too many memories to catalog.
Joe was a good, good man and a friend for life since we were in high school and during the time we were part of the FSCs as well as into his dying days. He was remarkable to me in many ways. I knew no one who did not like him. Many of us were startled by his all around grace as a human being .I felt blessed to count him as my friend
Even in HS Joe provided many of us an opportunity to rejoice in his success not to resent it. We competed fiercely athletically and he never was bitter in defeat or condescending in victory. (included were ice hockey baseball, choir work, football, basketball ping pong, swimming, mini diving efforts...) I was most impressed that h showed competitive competence without harshness or strain.Even in his teens he had mastered being at ease with himself and therefore with others...it seemed rare to me. It still does.
He brought that grace and a lively sense of humor to everything. His acceptance of people as they were was remarkable and distributed universally. Insofar as I am a man of prayer I view him as another advocate among the cloud of witnesses that have we have and hope he is able to extend his compassion to us all in death as he did in life.
Loved the man.
