Anna Lifgren

Obituary of Anna Theresa Yuhas Lifgren

Anna Theresa Yuhas Lifgren, 96, formerly of Goldens Bridge NY, passed away at the Maplewood at Danbury Senior Living Community, Danbury CT on December 24, 2022.

She was born to John and Mary Yuhas of Drifton PA on December 14, 1926.  After graduating from high school she received her RN from Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY.  It was there that she met the love of her life, her husband Robert W. Lifgren, who rescued her when she missed the bus to the last train home.

Anna was a full-time nurse at the Mount Kisco Medical Group in Mount Kisco NY from 1955 until her retirement in 1996, but she and Robert loved nothing more than to travel all around the world whenever possible.  Over the years they visited Europe many times, as well as Russia, China when it first opened to tourism, Thailand where they dined with a prince, and Hong Kong.  In Africa they rode camels, visited the souks of Cairo and the pyramids, traveled the Nile, and enjoyed a safari in southern Africa.  They paced a solar vehicle competition in Australia and snorkeled in the Caribbean, not to mention cruises in Hawaii and Alaska, jaunts to Mexico and everywhere in between.

Anna’s passions were dancing, the NY Times Sunday crossword puzzles, shopping, her coin and stamp collection, and bird watching.  She had a gift for growing orchids, in spite of an otherwise brown thumb.  She loved Broadway musicals, and was a season ticket holder for the Metropolitan Opera Company and the American Ballet Theater at The Met at Lincoln Center and at home played CDs of her favorite tenors and sopranos at full blast.  Anna was always the life of the party.

Preceding Anna in death, in addition to her parents, were her loving husband, Robert W. Lifgren in 2000; her sisters Irene Peruto and Mary Bordner; and her brothers, Johnny Yuhas and Fredrick Yuhas.

Anna is survived by her children, Lif Strand of Quemado NM, Eric (Sally) Lifgren of Danbury CT, Dede (Jeff ) Lifgren of Brewster NY, Robert (Helen) Lifgren of Port Washington NY, and Lisa (Richard) Drummond of Enfield NH; her grandchildren, Sofia Lifgren, Demitri Lifgren, Trevor Bode, Bryn Bode, Aidan Bode, Speight Drummond, Noah Drummond, and Nate Lifgren; great-grandchildren Lyla Drummond and Henry Southerland; as well as many nieces; nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.

A service will be held at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Somers, NY in the spring.

I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it, I did it my way
