Born in Manhattan to Giacomo and Eleanor De Lazzero, he was a loving husband to his late wife, Janet, and a caring, supportive father to his children, Christine and James.
After graduating from Scarsdale High School in 1959, Gerald served in the National Guard as a young man. His career in the family business of Port Morris Tile and Terrazzo Corp. followed, from 1963-2005. He worked with many architects and on projects too numerous to mention, but include such landmarks as: The World Trade Center, Jacob Javits Center, Grand Central Station Renovation, The Museum of Natural History, the 1964 New York’s World Fair Pavilion. He was a member of the National Terrazzo and Mosaic Association, he had a lifetime membership to the General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen, and was employer trustee of the Terrazzo and Mosaic Welfare Pension/Local 7.
A man of diverse interests in his lifetime, Gerald was a photographer, bee keeper, gardener, Tai Chi practitioner, avid reader, animal lover. He had a great admiration for Jazz music that started in his teens and fed his soul up to the end of his days. His interest in history drew him to the craft of making and shooting muzzleloading rifles and assisted him in the historical preservation of his farm house built in the 1830’s in upstate New York.
Memories of Gerald as a vibrant, kind and gentle man will never fade.
