Cypser, Rudolph J., “Rudy” 94, of Katonah, NY, passed away at home on February 16, 2018. Rudy was born in Jersey City NJ on August 19, 1923 to the late Margaret and Rudolph B. Cypser. Rudy received his PhD in electrical engineering from MIT in 1953. After retiring from IBM in 1988, he began a second career advocating for restorative policies for drug laws and integration of prisoners. Rudy also had a decades-long avocation editing a rehabilitation-oriented newsletter and working directly with those imprisoned. In this arena, he promoted basic values of self-worth, compassion, and cooperation while teaching practical conflict resolution skills.
Rudy is survived by his wife of 70 years Cora Elizabeth “Betty” (Faust) Cypser; daughters Myra of Virginia, Beth (Hyeong-il) of Virginia, Valery of Connecticut; sons Jim (ShwuYar) of Colorado, Dan of Iowa; and grandchildren Christopher, Emily, Elisabeth, Alison, Mark, Robyn, Nicole, Connor, and Kelsi.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 2 to 6 PM at Clark Associates Funeral Home, Katonah NY. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 20 at 9AM at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Chapel, Maryknoll, NY. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 5468 Route 9W, Newburgh NY.
