Obituary of Herbert J. Tinsley
Herbert Joseph Tinsley, age 88, son of Herbert W. Tinsley and Marie (Meany) Tinsley, died peacefully at home in Somers, New York on Wednesday December 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Formerly of Bedford, NY, he was born on July 9, 1936 in the Bronx, NY and grew up in Yonkers, NY.
Herb is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jacqueline Cox Tinsley, and his 4 children - Thomas, Maura Fisher, Eileen Scullin and John. Affectionally known as Derby, he also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Herb was predeceased by his only sibling Marie Claire Trost.
Herb was a graduate of Iona Prep, Georgetown University and Columbia University Law School. In addition, he was a member of the ROTC and an Army veteran. Herb was a reserved man and had a great sense of humor. His entire professional career was in banking in New York City, retiring from JP Morgan Chase. An avid reader throughout his life, as well as a history buff, he enjoyed doing the New York Times crossword puzzles. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, always routing for his beloved Georgetown Hoyas, NY Mets and NY Giants, and enjoyed playing tennis with his friends in Bedford. In addition, he was involved in coaching his children's sports teams. Herb loved swimming and spending time at the beach with his family during numerous family vacations throughout the years. He and Jackie loved to travel, visiting their children, and touring many countries over the years. They were members of Saint Patrick's Church in Bedford, NY and Saint Joseph's Church in Somers, NY.
The family is very grateful to their dear friends for the kindness and prayers extended by them, and for the care provided to Herb by the professional health aides throughout his illness, and also Hospice.
Calling hours are respectfully omitted. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Patrick's Church, 7 Pound Ridge Road, Bedford, NY at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 28, 2024. Interment will follow at Saint Francis Cemetery, 236 Lexington Avenue, Mount Kisco, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Patrick's Church, Saint Joseph's Church, or the Parkinson's Foundation.
