Hey Arnold...I planned to get up to Ivandel this Spring and had figured I'd get in touch and we could share some coffee and chat. I am so sorry I missed you. We started Kindergarten together in Mrs. Germecks class...and gradauted Somers in 1956. I so vividly recall Ellen, Bobby, and Harriet...and all the good times we had at play in Lake Purdy. It was a good place to grow up. I remember when eating lunch at your house, your mom would have us lie down and "rest" for awhile after eating. Again Arnold, I am sorry I missed the opporunity to visit with you. God bless you in His Infinity.

I have very wonderful memories of Arnold. He was my older brother by two years. When we were ages three and one, our parents moved to Lake Purdy. It was an idyllic place to grow up. When we were younger, we fished together, and later as teenagers, we hunted together. We didn’t have to go far for adventures. lake Purdy was just a stone’s throw away from our house, and the countryside had plenty of undeveloped woods, streams, ponds and of course there were the reservoirs, He and I spent a lot of time together. We were close, and Arnold was always looking out for his younger brother!
We owned old cars together as teenagers. One was a ‘39 Packard convertible. It cost us 50 bucks, and had no piston rings. It got 20 miles per gallon of old previously used engine oil that we got for free. When you put your foot on the accelerator and gunned the engine a bit, it left such a smokescreen that you could hardly see the road behind!
I followed in Arnold’s and my father‘s footsteps and became an electrician. They both gave me good advice along the way. Arnold and I sometimes commuted into the city together, and we even worked on a job together for a short time.
He was active in Local 3, and after he retired, he joined the Westchester retirees and participated in their various social gatherings. At the annual Christmas party, he loved to hand out special pens he got that had a flashlight built in, as well as his name and phone number on each one. He wasn’t a man to say much, but he believed deeply in the values the union stood for, and the comraderie was very special to him.
Nothing meant more to Arnie than his family. He loved and was proud of his three children, his five grandchildren, and his toddler great grandchild, Silvia. I have a wonderful recent memory of Silvia sitting on Arnold’s lap at a small family gathering in the nursing home where he spent a few weeks. I think that all of us who were able to be there felt comforted the way that Silvia could get a beaming smile from him on his 83rd birthday.
I am so grateful for the care he received near his passing from his daughters, Ann and Charlene, both nurses. They are angels! His stay in the nursing home where Ann is the head of Nursing, gave him the strength to return home. He lived with his daughter Charlene, his son-in-law Doug, and granddaughter Samantha. He passed in his sleep in the very home where he grew up, having received the care from devoted family, and having been nursed by both his daughters.
I am also grateful that I was able to tell him thanks for being such a good big brother.
Love from brother Bob...
