So very sorry to hear that Steve has passed away. He was such an inspiring and generous person! I will always be indebted to him for sharing Norton Island with me and the other artists and writers in residence in the summer of 2016. My own father had died less than a month before my residency and Steve's insights re the Maine shore and 'navigating the reach' gave me the vocabulary that I needed to describe my experience with loss. I am forever grateful to him.

Very, very, very sad to learn of Steve’s passing.
He’d created and maintained an acadian paradise for artists of many kinds to work unhindered, unmoored from the rest of the world.
Much fine writing, painting, music, film, sculpture and more benefited from his truly tireless devotion delivered with his signature debonair flair.
It’s very rare to find a residency that doesn’t require references but relies, instead, on the strength of the applicant’s own focus and goals.
I was lucky and blessed to have attended twice. Those experiences inspire me still.
Will really, really, really miss the unique, generous soul that was Steve Dunn.

Steve and Rosey were a delightful and generous couple. I regret that Rosey finally faces what she knew she would. All the fore planning in the world does not evade the necessity to mourn. Rosey is as prepared as anyone can be. I am with you should you ever wish or need whatever I can give.
Steve was special in all the ways so many have spoken of: smart, courageous, loving, generous and gifted with an infectious zest and curiosity for life. My last contact with him, about a month ago, was a close to two hour phone conversation about life, living death and a myriad other topics. He was clearly exhausted, but didn't want to stop. Mostly, I had called him to get his views on an article I was writing. Ever enthusiastic, Steve made several suggestions. I took the most significant. They made.a difference. The article is now finished. Whatever happens with it, I will always value Steve, our last talk and the insightful gifts he gave me that made the article so much better. Sailing was special. Norton was special and Steve was special. His legacy will live on.

Dear Rosy and family,
I am so very sorry to hear about Steve's passing. Steve's was a brilliant man and I will never forget our many in depth conversations about everything from data to politics to life. Memories of Steve coming into my office and espousing amazingly ingenious ideas and then telling me to go ahead and figure out how to do it and then rushing off.
His love for his family always came first. So many memories of retreats at the Island and the big smile Steve would greet us with as he pulled up in the boat to whisk us to a few days of intense meetings and intense fun. I picture Steve forever floating the heavens in his boat smiling and thinking and dreaming. RIP Steve.
With Sympathy,
Shari Lidsky

I have so many fond memories of spending time with Steve. His enthusiasm for the arts, his sense of humor, his love of nature and the watery part of the world. I remember driving to Chicago's O'Hare airport in a blizzard because Gus and I knew he was going to have a layover there between two places and we wanted to have dinner with him. It was worth it. He took me deep sea fishing and I lost my lure immediately. And he casually discussed directing Brecht's "Mother Courage" in high school, that crazy play/musical, and I just thought, why didn't I know him THEN? He's made the world so much better. So long, pal. You changed my life, all for the best.

I'm so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. Our condolences to you, Rosey, and all the family. Despite not knowing him as well or as long as some of you, he was the one I always ended up in deep conversation with, and I am usually one for shallow conversation...
Our thoughts with you and of him.

Memories of Steve.
I first met Steve in the early 1990’s when I was hired to help save/resurrect MDA after the wolves and turncoats (you know who you are) had been at the gates following the untimely passing of Mal. Steve’s energy, creativity and determination to not only survive (the family was counting on it) but once again make the family business thrive was infectious, and I was all in. It was the haters own arrogance which enabled Steve to lead us back into the light.
We worked shoulder to shoulder, first to save the remaining signature B2B account, and then to forge a bold new future in the Consumer field first with low end schlock lists to generate operating revenue, then the acquisition in short order of Golf Illustrated, then Lang Communications and finally US News & World Report. Long days, late nights, didn’t matter. We would prevail…we had to prevail. And prevail we did.
I left the first time for supposedly greener pastures, only to be drawn back to MDA by Steve’s magnetism. Births, deaths, heck, I even got married at MDA in a previous life iteration.
Throughout it all Steve’s indomitable spirit shown. Yes, he was flawed man. Aren’t we all? Steve made hard decisions, not ones I always agreed with, but ones that were true to his core. Family first. Family first. Family first.
It’s a bit cliché, but to know Steve was to love Steve. Sometimes he just couldn’t help himself…but he had his partner in life—Rosy to catch, guide and nurture him. Rosy represents what is best in Steve.
Gone too soon. Gone too soon. God bless your spirit Steve and may we all rejoice in the works you leave us here on earth.
Rest in peace Steve.
