I'm a 63 year old man and was a student of Mr. Fitz's English classes at Cathedral Prep. Aside from a single memory of being in his office all my contact w/ him was in class. He was a tough teacher, and had expectations of all of us. He had the MOST sarcastic wit, and each class had laughter in it. He imparted soo many lessons to us boys. I earn my living as a writer. Nope; he never gave me a word of encouragement back in the day. Why? Because I was just a bright schmuck You had to be pretty bright to be a student at the Prep; it was a given, and the academic demands were extraordinarily high. Half of my incoming class of Frosh never graduated. So...I was just a schmuck. BUT... The lessons I learned almost a half century ago from this man...yeah. An outstanding teacher; a kind and good man, who knew, KNEW life was tough. And yet, he navigated it so well and showed us worlds we never would have seen. From Milton to Shakespeare, from 'The Dubliners' to 'Hollow Men', he was truly a master of his vocation. I envy those who knew him and loved him outside the Prep. This broken world is better for him being with us. Vaya Con Dios Mr. Fitz. And to those of you who grieve, that will pass. But the memories of laughter will remain.

So sorry for the loss of such a great man . He was such a nice neighbor and cornerstone of our neighborhood . Allways kind and supportive of my deceased wife . His morale compass is shown in the children that his wife and he raised ! A great loss to all of us that knew him . Allways the man on the go . Allways kept moving when most would give up till the end . I will miss his daily routine as I Allways watched out for him from a distance ! May the kindness and loving MEMORYS be your comfort at this most difficult time . My prayers for his soul as he is no longer suffering in this world . He has rejoined his love that passed way to early for all ! Thank you for your friendship from all your family ! A very fond neighbor . Timothy P. Kraus
