My two sons had Mr. Wallick in the Briarcliff School District. One son recalls in 2nd grade in a bad rainstorm in the cafeteria some of the children were a little afraid. Mr. Wallick broke into a full song and dance to take the children’s minds off of the storm; it worked. The other son had Mr. Wallick in 3rd grade. We moved briefly to another District in November that school year. Mr. Wallick had a big send off for my son with the class. Additionally he “retired” his desk permanently that school year. He would tell the students, “put your homework on Michael’s desk,” although we moved. That brought tears to my eyes when I heard the story as we subsequently moved back when Michael began 5th grade. Mr. Wallick had a special way to reach a child and empower the child to feel comfortable with participation in the class. Thank you Mr. Wallick. You absolutely made a difference and we will never forget you.
Our sincere condolences to the Wallick family. Dave’s passion for the memories of Camp Siwanoy will remain with many forever.
